Why $90 and No Subscription

Lomenett costs $90, one time, with no subscription, no account, no in-app purchases, and no data business quietly making up the difference.

Ninety dollars for a password gadget is a real amount of money, and you deserve a real explanation, so here it is.

Premium, not freemium

Freemium is where companies start to sell data, and that's simply how the model works. A "free" password manager still has servers to run and engineers to pay, and if the money isn't coming from you, the product has to make money some other way, which usually means your habits, your attention, your profile, or steady pressure toward a paid tier once your passwords are already locked in.

We refuse to run that model, and we wrote the refusal down before we built anything: never take people's data, never lie, never build a product for the sole intention of making money. The full list is on The Nevers. A fair price, charged once, in the open, is what those rules look like as a business model. You pay us $90, we hand you a finished object, and nobody owes anybody anything after that.

Why not a subscription?

Because a subscription changes who the product serves. A subscription company needs you to keep paying, which means it needs leverage, and with password managers the leverage is grim, because if you stop paying, your own passwords sit behind someone else's paywall. It also means your data has to live where the company can meter it, which is to say on their servers.

Lomenett has no server. Your passwords live in your hand, encrypted and offline, so there is nothing for us to meter and nothing to charge an ongoing fee for. A subscription on this product wouldn't just be greedy, because with no ongoing service behind it, it would be dishonest.

What the $90 actually buys

We're not going to publish a cost breakdown, because that's not the honest part of this page. The honest part is what's in the thing and behind it:

• A real secure element. An NXP SE050E, the tamper-resistant chip that holds your encryption key, never lets it out, and destroys it after a handful of wrong PIN guesses. It's the reason a lost Lomenett is a shrug instead of an emergency, and how that works, along with what it doesn't cover, is on our attack surface page.
• Machined aluminum, a screen, a thumbwheel, and a battery. It's a physical object built to ride on your keys for years.
• A company that doesn't need your data to survive. This is the part no spec sheet lists. Because you paid a fair price up front, NuLenke never has to get creative with your information, so the $90 buys the hardware and also buys the version of us that stays loyal to you. We're two people in Minnesota, and this is the only way we were willing to run a company.

The honest comparison

Where do the alternatives win? Truthfully, a cloud password manager syncs across your devices automatically and makes sharing logins with family easy, and the free ones cost nothing today. If $90 isn't in your budget right now, a reputable free password manager still beats reusing one password everywhere, and we would honestly rather you do that than nothing.

But over the years, the math and the incentives both favor our model, because a subscription never stops while ninety dollars stops immediately. You buy it once, you own it, and you're done paying.
