Yours, Forever

You buy a Lomenett once, for $90, and it is yours forever. There is no subscription, no account, no server it depends on, and nothing NuLenke can switch off. This page explains what ownership actually means for this product.

Why one purchase, then done

A subscription changes who a product works for. Once a company bills you monthly, its real product becomes your continued payment, and the locked features and pricing changes that follow all come from that one fact. We charge once because we want the transaction to be finished at the sale. You paid for the device, so the device is yours, and we are done wanting things from you.

A product that depends on servers cannot be sold that way, which is one more reason Lomenett has no servers. Since there is nothing we have to keep paying for, there is nothing we have to keep charging you for. The full pricing reasoning is at Why $90 and No Subscription.

Designed to be serviced

Lomenett is built to be opened, repaired, and kept running. There is no glued-shut enclosure, no proprietary lock on the case, and no serialized parts that refuse a replacement. Since the schematics and firmware will be published, a repair shop, or you with basic tools, can keep a Lomenett working for as long as you want to keep it.

We would rather you fix it than replace it, because a device you can service is a device you actually own.

If NuLenke disappears tomorrow

Suppose NuLenke goes out of business and the website goes dark. Nothing happens to your Lomenett. The device does not phone home, it never needed an account, and it never activated against a server, so there is nothing for you to lose, close, or deactivate. Your backups are files in your own possession that open with standard archive software, and with the firmware and schematics open sourced, the design can be maintained, patched, and even manufactured without us. The worst possible outcome for the company would change nothing about the device you own. We think that should be the minimum bar for anything you trust with your passwords, and very few products on the market clear it.

No ecosystem

Lomenett cannot lock you into an ecosystem because it does not have one. It presents as a keyboard and a flash drive, so it works with everything you already own. If you ever want to leave, you switch the device to Edit mode, where your passwords sit in a plain text file that you can read and copy yourself. There is no export request to file, no data-portability form, and no waiting period, so your data is never held hostage. How the file editing works is covered on How It Works.

Why we sell it this way

We started a company named "new link" to restore the old arrangement between people and their products. That means one purchase, serviceable hardware, open designs, and a device that outlives its maker if it has to, because that is the only kind of ownership we are willing to sell.
